My Shirodhara experience @ O2 spa, Radisson Blu Dwarka, New Delhi

A recent review to a luxury spa
made me fall in love with Ayurveda. O2 spa is synonymous with well being and
oozes tranquility and hospitality the moment you step in. Located on the second
floor of Radisson Blue Dwarka, the spa welcomes guests with coconut water and lemongrass infused ambiance.

The reception is brimming with luxury,
so each corner is beautifully created to evoke relaxation for the guests. The wide lounge of O2 spa has subtle lights
that transform an agitated mind to a relaxed soul.

The soothing music whisks
you to a paradise where you are oblivious of the commotion in the world. A Buddha face on the wall illuminates radiance and calm as you gaze at it.

Pebbles on the side with plants enlighten the atmosphere, while soft comfortable chairs help you to loosen up and feel connected in the relaxing zone.
My
introduction towards tranquility came in the form of a lady with folded hands
who ushered me towards the therapy room.
While the lounge had impressed me
with its somber ambiance, the therapy room made me feels at ease the moment I
step inside. A bowl with rose petals immersed in it widened my smile. I take my
seat and dip my feet in it, while the therapist pours warm water. I am relaxed
already!

Shirodhara – The awakening of the
third eye chakra
I had booked myself for
Shirodhara – An ancient Ayurvedic treatment that includes pouring warm
medicated oil on the third eye point of the forehead to unblock any blockages.
This allows the energy to flow properly and helps relieve headaches, migraine,
insomnia and stress. Ayurveda massage aims to improve the circulation, prevents
skin dryness and balance three doshas: vata (space and air), pitta (fire and
water) and kapha (water and earth).
The Therapy –
While I lied face down on the
wooden table, the oil is massaged on the legs and optimum pressure is applied
on the heels that were in most painful stages since the last few days.
Thankfully, the therapist was doing a fabulous job in applying the exact
pressure on them.
She later massaged the legs in circular motion and worked up
the magic in just few minutes. While her fingers were the masters of her
talent, her warm hospitable attitude made me comfortable and at ease.
The entire massage took about 45
minutes where each part was given the perfect time and pressure. I was already
relaxed and at ease.
With the soft music playing, I was transported to another
world. She moved towards the Shirodhara
treatment that had a bronze pot hanging with a wooden panel, and softly poured
the warm oil on my forehead.
The soothing Ayurveda oil flowed
continuously for about 45 minutes back and forth over my forehead. My eyes were
covered with a cloth and I sank into a deep relaxing mode. My hair was oozing
in oil. The constant stream of the warm oil over my forehead made the chatter
in my head dissolve and I drifted away.  Minutes later, I dozed off.
I was woken up
with a gentle voice in my ear. After a steam and bath, I was a refreshed body
with a tranquil mind and a happy soul. Post therapy, I was offered a glass of
cococunt water for enhanced effectiveness of the treatment. I thanked the team of O2 spa, Radisson Blu Dwarka and left the spa with a radiated and happy experience.
