Lan Sabai – A beautiful wellness retreat in Phuket

Enjoying a peaceful location on a quiet cobbled street of picturesque Phuket, the Lan Sabai is a beautiful wellness retreat in Phuket infused with character and a style that blends contemporary design with period features.

Getting there

The closest airport is Phuket International airport, which is only 1.5 hours away. Airport transfers are included. When I arrived, a luxury MUV was waiting for me, and provided an excellent transfer service to Lan Sabai.

The resort is superbly located in a charming, quiet neighborhood of Phuket’s oldest district. Picturesque alleys, historic places and hidden gardens make the area around the resort the city’s most entrancing district.

With 10 elegant rooms, excellent dining, an outdoor yoga hall, a wide swimming pool and an aesthetic spa, the Lan Sabai wellness resort marries the legendary hospitality of Thailand with the inimitable charm of Phuket.

At Lan Sabai, clean, nautical lines evoke an ambiance of understated refinement and a mood of calm tranquility. Overall, the pristine white architecture and the minimalist modern interior design provide a stunning contrast to the hyperactive streets of Phuket.

Here, you can meander through cobblestoned streets, marvel at romantic scenery, and stroll through galleries and shops. The property is perfect for exploring the best of Phuket since it’s within a short walking distance from all major tourist attractions, including the iconic Big Budda statue, the immensely popular Phuket Old Town  (30 min drive ) and the magnificent Wat chalong temple.

Exuding a unique character and soothing charm, the decor is a combination of historical ambience and contemporary design, sensitively complemented with the subtly opulent oriental. The hotel’s owner Ms. Lisa has carefully preserved architectural features, thus creating a wellness retreat like no other.

The simple yet creative reception desk and floral displays – and the adjoining space displays beautiful flow garments, medicinal oils, handmade products all at a very affordable price.

The dining area exhibits vibrant modern artworks and sleek furnishings. Books from reputed authors are displayed for reading in the lobby, restaurant, and the poolside or in the room.

At its base, the hotel’s main building is surrounded by an open space, shaded by pine and coconut trees. The main pool area is great for lounging, or simply soaking in the tranquil environment.

Accommodation

Each of the 10 rooms have been individually furnished and decorated to embrace the best of the destination whilst adding a touch of Asian flair. The rooms are spacious and exquisitely furnished, with high ceilings. All rooms bath in natural light peering through the large sliding doors.

The rooms feature a large bed, Asian art works, and a big almirah to place clothes, a fridge with bottles, tea sachets, coffee dispenser, and a table with basic amenities. The rooms have attached balconies facing the pool and views of the mountains.

The oversized bathroom was clad in marble, with a rain shower and chemical free bath products. I loved the idea of not having any television or intercom in the room. Since the resort has everything in the vicinity, the staff is just a shout out away, who are always there to help you.

Dining

Dinners are usually done with by 7 pm at the resort’s only restaurant that serves an eclectic mix of nourishing Asian food, based around home style cooking. The menu features fragrant dishes spruced well with ginger, garlic and coriander – all nourishing for the digestive system.

After a nutritious and delicious dinner of prawn rice with vegetables, we moved to our room. Minutes later, two masseuses with fragrant oils entered with warm smiles. The oil massage is something that we would highly recommend, as it aids in deeper relaxation with soothing oils and perfect pressure.  The masseuse are well trained and polite.

Yoga and much more

The wellness sanctum provides many holistic retreats to guests. From sound healing, yoga, tai chi, qigong, breath-work, the retreat takes guests on a transformative journey inside out.

We experienced the sound healing experience in the pool and were enthralled with the power of the healing sounds. As the Buddha bowls envisage a soothing effect, the waters gently wade up to an infinite sensation of peace and calm, helping us to drift in deep slumber.

This was the best experience I have ever come across. The breath work opens up the chakras and help in balancing them with rhythmic breathing movements, all helpful in acquiring a calming mind and soul. This session is best for people who are unable to express themselves and have difficulty in letting go of past traumas, thus blocking their chakra balance.

Poolside

Dipping in the pool is the most relaxing experience at Lan Sabai. You can enjoy a nice back float, while gazing at the fluffy clouds slightly gliding under the coconut trees. You can also enjoy floating on their water pillows without getting wet and enjoy the healing sound of nature all around.

Sightseeing

The resort helps in arranging not only airport transfers, but sightseeing options. We were able to visit several places to explore in Phuket, the best being the old town Phuket market, only 30 minutes away. The market is great for people who love to shop and indulge in coffee and cakes.

There are temples in the vicinity like Wat Chalong temple, the famous Buddhist temple and the Big Buddha temple, perched on the hill. Entry to both places is free and worth exploring. There are beaches like Nai Harn beach, a quiet compact beach with a village atmosphere. Here tourists come to relax in the peaceful vibe and enjoy swimming the moderate tides.

A healing vacation at Lan Sabai is worth experiencing as it takes you on a wellness odyssey and transforms you completely. The place is so addictive with its warm hospitality, comfortable vibe, soothing vibe, nutritious food that you would want to re-visit again.
