Kesar Bagh Chittorgarh – A Royal Palatial property

If you are looking for a heritage property intertwined with Mewar architecture and hospitality, then you must stay at the Kesar Bagh Chittorgarh . This recently built, beautiful palatial property has an inventory of 100 keys that has stunning architecture, gorgeous rooms and landscaped gardens.

The location

Chittorgarh is a beautiful, historic city, close to the borders with Udaipur and Ranthambore. It’s an easy 1.30 hour drive from Udaipur that you can enjoy while gazing at the scenic landscapes and the Vidyanchal ranges.

The Welcome

A huge gate opens up to a sprawling wide space complete with a fountain in the center, domes on the sides, landscaped gardens and a classic door embellished with wooden carvings leading to the lobby.

The staff warmly greets me with the traditional tikka and a folk music, sung by the local musician. An air of warmth and hospitality surrounds me as I make myself comfortable in the lobby that is covered with artistic flair of murals and stonework on the walls and ceilings.

I fell in love with the architecture and bright hues of the property, welcoming me in its traditional manner.

Accomodations

Kesar Bagh has 100 keys including two suites and the remaining premium category rooms that are well refurbished to extend comfort to guests. Each room has handmade carvings on walls and ceilings, and very impressive art work. The rooms are spacious and mostly have views of the garden.

The Luxury Suite

My suite on the first floor featured a living area equipped with a plush sofa, coffee table, a huge closet, a mini fridge stacked with beverages and a LCD TV.

The bedroom itself exudes a charming blend of traditional and modern design. The bed is framed by a striking dark, rustic wooden lattice that complements the exposed beams, adding warmth and character.

This contrasts beautifully with the homely atmosphere offered by the bright blue designs on the walls.

Well-lit and thoughtfully arranged, the room includes a small sitting area with two comfortable chairs by the window, perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring. The en suite bathroom lies just beyond.

The highlight of this suite is the attached Jacuzzi where you can soak in with a drink in hand and enjoy the sweeping views of the manicured gardens.

The queen size bed with soft duvet, huge pillows makes it perfect for a peaceful deep sleep.  I was immensely impressed with the carvings on the ceiling that made me feel instantly at home.

The en suite bathroom is very inviting. A glass-screened walk-in shower, 2 sinks (perfect for couples) and a nice slab give the bathroom a modern, classic aesthetic. Fluffy towels, soft lighting and a plentiful supply of toiletries provided an added air of luxury.

A touch of warmth and hospitality

There were all kinds of thoughtful extras in my room that it would have been easy not to leave! A welcome drink, a traditional dessert, cookies, fruits and a welcome note. There was a good supply of tea and coffee satches, and a mini hamper crammed full of crisps and biscuits

Dining

The palatial property has one all day dining restaurant serving breakfast buffets and a-la carte meals. Breakfast was a lovely way to start each morning.

Along with a selection of cereals, cut fruits and juices to help you to, there’s also an à la carte menu. You can choose from North Indian meals like pohas, paranthas, pooris or dosa, idli, upma, or indulge in an English breakfast.

In the evenings, the menu offers burgers, rolls, sandwiches, alongside creative dishes that blend well with Rajasthan cuisine. Think daal baati choorma or ker sangri with flat breads like missi roti for lunch.

I spent most of my time exploring the beautiful property. On my visit, I was impressed by the local musician and his family always entertaining with guests in the restaurant, lobby or the courtyard. It was lovely to see the locals being given work to help them in their livelihood and adding value to the welcoming atmosphere.

In the evenings, I enjoyed a stroll through the gardens in which I was immersed in a breathtaking palette of seasonal colors.

The sky was a little overcast but this only served to make the fiery reds, deep oranges and golden yellows in the garden stand out even more.

Facilities

The plush property has a huge swimming pool, where you can enjoy a nice dip while soaking in the surroundings. There is also an upcoming spa with exquisite therapies. The palace resort has banquets to host weddings and conferences all year round.

Excursions and visits

Chittorgarh has several places to visit, the prominent one being the Chittorgarh fort, also popularly known as Water Fort. It is home to 22 water bodies, palaces, towers and temples spread over 700 acres. The fort was captured numerous times; the first one to lay his hands on the fort was Bappa Rawal of the Guhila dynasty, who defeated the Moris to capture the majestic fort.

It is a delight to watch the marvelous architecture of the temples and gaze in to the historic monuments all weaved with intricate stories of valor and courage by the Mewar dynasty. The brave queen rani padmavati and her heroic deeds reverberate in the chittorgarh fort. (Detailed blog on the fort coming up in my next blog).

Binsar wildlife sanctuary

A winding road of about 45 kms takes us to Bassi wildlife sanctuary. Home to thousands of butterflies, birds, crocodiles, deers, boars, this sanctuary is literally paradise for people who love peace. Extremely neat, with carbon negative footprints, the Bassi wildlife sanctuary is a must visit while exploring Chittorgarh.

My three days spent in the historic city of chittorgarh was very fruitful with reverberating discoveries that brought me so close to this vibrant city. As I bid adieu to the Kesar Bagh Chittorgarh, the warm hospitality and the charm lingers on to me.
