Zaffran @ Kasbah – Authentic Indian food in a romantic setting

Indian cuisine invokes images of
rich, aromatic flavors, succulent tandoori delicacies and scrumptious sweet
desserts. They have a wonderful way of enticing all the senses! Zaffran @ Kasbah has everything
for everyone.

The restaurant is among
the stalwarts of the Indian fine-dining restaurant scene since 15 years. So as
you step inside the beautiful looking restaurant, wide spaces welcome you with
warmth.
The 100 cover restaurant has a charming appeal that transcends you to a
romantic place and fills your heart with contentment.  The whitewashed dining room impresses you
with its subtle hues that heighten the aesthetic impact of the food.
Zaffran is an uber chic fine
dining restaurant that looks even more beautiful in the evening when the dim
lighting and tea lights come on. The large bowl with rose petals and tea lights
at the entrance look very alluring. Retro music plays in the background, which
adds to the authentic experience of dining here.

We took seats next to a large
window. The table is spacious enough to cover a large spread of the food with a
centre glass that had Indian spices like nutmeg, red chilli, cardamoms. We sipped
our chilled Cranberry, Virjitto and Watermelon Mojito and perused the
menu.
If you love Tandoori meats, you’ll relish the Chicken Malai Kebab – moist, chunky boneless pieces coated with
traditional herbs simply melt in your mouth.  The Vegetarian Platter has the most delectable
Paneer and Mushroom Kababs I have ever tasted.
You can dig into Indian comfort
vegetarian fare such as Daal Tadka (lentils
made with fried onions, tomatoes, garlic, spices) that remind you of the
pleasure that Indian food can give. The navrattan korma is serious comfort
food. It also goes extremely well with Naan, a buttery crisp roti or a lachhaa
parantha.
Special mention must be made of
the chicken biryani. The aromatic and fluffy rice is presented in alluring brass
pots with a layer of flour covering the top. This is done to seal the rich
flavors of saffron and spices that looks and tastes divine.
Chicken Boti Masala is another
favorite that my family loved. There’s something gratifying about the flavors
and texture of this dish. Garam masala adds heat and spice while the cinnamon
and clove smell heavenly. The onions and tomatoes mixed with tender chicken
create a succulent flavor, and the spices elevate the dish to something
special.
For dessert, the phirni is
impressive. Seasonings such as cardamom and saffron are compelling in this dessert,
adding a unique taste that reminds me of flowers and incense. It’s a wonderful
way to end an Indian meal.
