United Coffee House, CP – Keeping the legacy alive

The summer evenings can be made better when you dine at classic places that give you fine memories. The United Coffee House CP is one such place that does exactly that. When I was invited to review this classic restaurant, I was elated.

First Impressions

Easily approachable in the E-Block, the restaurant has an
entrance that resembled a chic heritage door guarded by a man dressed up in a
uniform straight out from the Gorkha regiment. The wooden panel with United Coffee
House written on it spelled class. I was already eager to enter the restaurant.

The 75 year old Restaurant looked well maintained with its
robust persona in the form of great ambiance and soulful music. I was
spellbound looking at the classic interiors of UCH that intrigued me to dig
further in its history.
The oriental, colonial décor is vocal in every corner
of the restaurant, while the huge chandeliers hanging from the ceiling seduce
you with its charm and elegance.  The
music is honey coated as every musical note stimulates your senses.
We take the seats next to the well equipped bar and cool our
heels. The floors and high ceilings of the restaurant take you away to a
midsummer night’s dream, while the spacious chairs ooze comfort and relaxation.
There is ample space for dining on the ground as well as the first level. I
observe smartly clad servers in the restaurant that display the finesse and old
world charm in their hospitality.
The Victorian setting is flawlessly distributed in the 175
seater restaurant. I can sense a vibe of sophistication in the restaurant as
there are beaurocrats, businessmen and families who can be seen enjoying their
meals. However, the highlight of UCH is the open bar, where you can watch the
performance of maestros in disguise who craft cocktails and mocktails. Eating
here looked much like a theatrical experience.

Food

We are handed over a menu that seem like a
fanfare of scrumptious dishes all compiled into different sheets. We began with Fatooush – a simple salad that had the perfect mix of herbs and seasonings to accentuate the taste.
There is always a fine line between careful arrangement of
small bites and an overwhelming smorgasbord.  To continue the culinary odyseey, we ordered the kabab-e-bahar – veg and non veg platters.

Both the platters were devoured and satiated us to a level
impossible to express. It was the enormous keema samosa that stole our heart.
Filled with minced meat, the samosa’s crisp body draped the fillings with a
spicy intonation that seemed so rhythmic.

The Man Chow soup, a tad different from the usual soup has
perfect intonations of fresh ginger and garlic and chicken mixed well. Before
the main course, we enjoyed our chilled drinks that primed our taste buds for
the main course to follow.
For the main course, I picked up the Burmese Khao Suey
Chicken as I was a big fan of coconut.
The hearty coconut cream soup had a profuse use of seasoned herbs and
vegetables that delighted my taste buds. The Chopsuey was average but we were
satisfied with the service and freshness. The Gluten free almond cake and New
York baked cheese cake seal the deal with its astonishing flavors.
The signature drink of United Coffee House, Cona Coffee has
a surprisingly strong intonation that is served with milk separately. United
Coffee House is for those who love food and who are well versed with the
flavors.
Our dinner was over, but we realized our conversations were lost in
the gripping flavors of food.
