The flavors of Rajashtan @ Kathputli

Kathputli, the newly opened
restaurant in Defence Colony gives diners an overall fantastic
experience. As you enter the Marwadi restaurant, two men clad in Rajasthan
attire welcome you with folk music that lingers on for quite some time. The
atmosphere is so welcoming, that you are transcended in the magical tunes of
Rajasthan.

The restaurant has acquired a big
fan following in spite of its quaint presence in the bustling Defence Colony
market. It is a sight for passerby as the folk music played by the men clad in traditional
Rajasthan attire looks very pleasant.Although the space is not quite large, the
restaurant is structured well to accommodate a big gathering.
Kathputli has three
floors, that are long and narrow with seating comfortable enough for a big
family to enjoy their entire meal.
As you walk up towards the first
floor, a wall with a brilliant fervor of Rajashtan welcomes you. The restaurant
is adorned with knick knacks of the pink city with each corner speaking of its culture
and tradition.
It is not just a place to dine, but
an overall different experience that remains forever. As you are ushered to
your seat, a big Thali with six small bowls are placed on the table. Each diner
is offered Jaljeera and masala chaach to begin the succulent fare. The servers clad in their
traditional attire are more than happy to serve you.
They offer three chutneys, with
different flavors that are as appealing to the palette as they are to the eyes.
Kathputli has two full meal platters, Marwari and North Indian. So there aren’t
any Ala carte options. The food is devised keeping in mind the Rajashtani
flavor according to the Indian taste. Both the meals are scrumptious and take
you on a culinary ride.
The Rajasthani Thali begins with
a variety of starters. Boondi chaat, made with curd and boondi is perfect. The
next starter include safed dhokla, methi gota and mirch pakoda. The three
starters are different from each other. The mirch pakoda is the best out of the
three. A papaya salad is also served.
The starters are surprisingly
very light and even make way for the main course.
The main course has a variety of vegetables
that include Aloo methi, Masala bhindi, Rajasthani kadhi, Sev tamatar ki subji,
Daal baati choorma. The traditional Rajasthani breads comprise of a scrumptious
paalak phulka and a masaala parantha. Along with the paranthas, Gujarati
khichdi and subzi pulao are also served. The meal closes with two desserts,
gulab jamun and gulab kheer.
The gulab jamun has an extra sweet touch to it
while the gulaab kheer is perfectly done with adequate amount of sugar.
The thali
tends to fill you up with taste of each dish inticing the palette. The
hospitable environment and gastronomical fare combine to give everlasting
memories that want would you to return back again.
