Spa experience with Jagmandir Palace – A luxury resort in Udaipur

Udaipur is a city of romance, luxury and heritage. The Lake city exudes charm with its collection of vintage artefacts and cars that speak in volumes about the historical past.

My trip to Udaipur made me fall in love with the Lake city. I was invited to review the spa at Jagmandir Palace and I have to admit this was the finest spa experience of my lifetime.

Jagmandir Island Palace: Luxury and Heritage

I am in awe of the beauty of the palace. A Grand Heritage Palace of the
HRH Group of Hotels, it is a historic 17th century palace redeveloped as a complete destination.

The all-day café, dining, bar and spa are all built keeping in mind the luxury elements whilst keeping the heritage alive. I enjoyed a cup of tea sitting at the cafe and loved the ambiance while admiring the lake Pichola.

The service is top notch and the decor matches exquisitely well with the heritage. The blue tones added on the ceiling match well with the white background.

At present, this paradise plays hosts to several weddings owing to its exclusive ‘regal experiences’ it offers.

The palace is synonymous with a defining episode of history when the Mughal Prince Khurram sought refuge here in 1623, who further inspired the Mughal Emperor Shah Jehan, to build the Taj Mahal in Agra.

I was highly impressed with the Darikhana Restaurant, Picholi Bar and all-day café that overlooks the  Lake Pichola and the City Palace. Jagriti, a heritage museum walks you through how the Jagmandir Island Palace was built. Every element is etched with historical
stories that echo the grandeur celebration of the bygone era.

The spa at  Jagmandir Palace was once the area where the maharanis celebrated their togetherness and regaled over luxurious pampering and indulgences.

The Spa experience

The garden area of Jagmandir Palace has marble statues of
huge elephants at the entrance that looks spectacular. As I walked towards the garden, I could feel a majestic vibe. Upon entering the lobby of the spa, the spacious lobby exudes a sense of calmness and serenity.

In homage to the history of the local it is situated in, the spa is surrounded by references to Mewar heritage and culture.

The spa room  is a joyous area of utter relaxation accentuated by the dim lighting and luxurious setting of exotic textures and materials such as pearl granite.

Switching into the robes and sinking my feet into their soft slippers, I waited for my therapist. I opted for the coconut scrub followed by a potli massage.

She honed in on these areas as she expertly worked her hands, effortlessly resulting in a wonderful feelings of relaxation. Later, she started using the potlis. The Potli Massage is one that can whisk away your aches and pain in a matter of 30 minutes. It is a combination of hot compression “Ayurveda Herbal Compression” (called potli) followed by a luxurious body massage.

I could feel each muscle relaxed and at ease after the therapy. The relaxation further accentuated after the shower that completely took away the tiredness and rejuvenated me.

I moved towards the reception area where the therapist offered me herbal tea. This spa is highly recommended if you are looking for a touch of luxury. The service is warm and friendly, and I emerged refreshed, recharged and ready to witness the beauty of the Jagmandir Palace.
