Location

Located an hour away from Chandigarh, Vrindavan Ayurveda Chikitsalayam is far away from the industrial hub of Baddi.

Common spaces and rooms, with their humble stylishness, pay homage to the Kerala themed wellness center, with architecture marvel in each corner.

Walkways lead to temples with intricate architecture, completing the tranquil setting.

Natural Setting

While opening the center in North India, a remote location in Himachal was required to give the benefits of healing in a tranquil setting.

Vrindavan Ayurveda Chikitsalayam enjoys a remote setting in one of the most beautiful spots of Baddi.

The wellness center is surrounded by mountains and forests, thereby helping in better quality of air, this aiding in healing.

The view of the surrounding rugged landscape – especially from the rooms and yoga hall – is truly spectacular.

The main building comprises two-story pavilions which form a meandering line, reflecting the lay of the landscape and intelligent engineering.

All buildings are connected through a series of plantations with ascending & descending walkways.

The wellness center’s understated design honors Kerala’s architecture, with wide verandas, tiled roofs walls which blend unobtrusively into the landscape.

As you enter the porch, the main lodge features a light, bright, and airy interior, styled with earthy tones.

Guests are welcomed with fresh glass of vegetable juice, and then led to the temple , where a small arti takes place with the help of the in-house priest.

Chanting mantras and praying for blessings is the first step taken to begin the healing journey.

Facilities

The pavilion houses the reception, dining area called Tulsi, a stylish reading room and a huge garden where you can enjoy lunch while soaking in the fresh air and the views.

The first floor has a waiting area, consultation room and a physiotherapy room. The waiting area is conceptualized as a social zone, where patients can meet other patients before or after dinner for networking.

Accommodation

The wellness center features rooms of different categories to suit solo patients, couples or families.

Every room has a lovely view of the trees and plants. Wood panelling and vaulted ceilings add cozy touches to the room decor, making it a great place to unwind after experiencing the therapies during the day.

Also, custom touches are everywhere, from soft blankets on the beds to the comfortable sofa armchairs upholstered in pale color.

The essense of the rooms thrive on simplicity and comfort.Satvik meals with natural and organic preparations, the curated food for each patient bringing local crops directly to their plates, enabling faster recovery and healing.

Each meal is curated based on the doshas of patients that would ail in healing. Taste, portion and health benefits are all taken care of in each meal.

Breakfast is between 8-9.Lunch is served between 12-1.Dinner- 8-9.

Therapies

Therapies are the most important part of the entire wellness package here. There are Naturopathy and Ayurveda therapies that are decided after the pulse of the patient is checked by the resident Ayurveda doctor.

I went for Abhyanga, Shirodhara and potli massage. The therapies are done by expert trained therapist from Kerala, who are well acquainted with pressure points. They begin with a small prayer and invoke the blessings of the divine before putting oil on the scalp.

Gentle, yet rhythmic pressure on the body is applied. Shirodhara is usually done for patients who are struggling with sleep issues.

The oil is gently poured on the forehead enabling deeper relaxation and a sense of calm. Patients mostly drift to a peaceful slumber during the treatment. I personally had the best experience, since I drifted to sleep in a few minutes and woke up fresh and relaxed after the 40 minutes therapy.

The potli massage next day was even better. Herbal concoctions tied up in a small cloth are tapped on the body to reduce pain, stiffness or any stress in the body.

Yoga and meditation

Yoga is practiced each day , begining at 7 and goes on to 8 AM. Light asanas are done keeping in mind the flexibility of patients.

Activities

There are several activities in the campus to engage the patients. Badminton court in the garden, a walking space, library with self improvement books, a Gaushala in the campus are all created to keep everyone staying in the campus occupied.

At Vrindavan Chikitsalayam, you can expect to acquire holistic wellbeing with a curated wellness package.

My Experience at Aavya – A Wellness Retreat in Rishikesh

Rishikesh – a land of tranquility, wellness and peace is referred to as the “Yoga Capital of the World”. People from all over the world come here for serenity, natural beauty and spiritual awakening . It was here that I came across Aavya – a wellness retreat that offers curated programs based on the needs of each guest.

Location

Located in Rishikesh’s popular location called Tapovan, Aavya welcomes the discerning traveler into a homely residence of contemporary design and impeccable service.

The wellness retreat blends simple decor with modern-day creative touches. With only five rooms, Aavya represents an intimate and peaceful retreat away from the hustle and the bustle of the town. The Retreat Center is owned and managed by Ashish, who came to Rishikesh and never looked back.

His vision of creating Aavya was to organize personalized wellness retreats based on the needs of the guests.

Aavya boasts of its surreal location making it an ideal base for independent exploring of Rishikesh. The open-plan kitchen is always open to guests, creating a homey atmosphere where guests can enjoy the flavors and comfort of a home far away from home.

The house fridge is stocked with baked sweets, savory snacks, fruits, and refreshing drinks. For comfort food after a long day of activities in Rishikesh, the menu offers pasta, soups, salads, and more. The charm of Aavya extends to the first floor with a cozy dining spot under some trees, where a rooftop terrace looks out over a breathtaking scenery.

The rooftop terrace’s inviting ambience serves as the perfect setting for social gatherings or unwinding solo with a house-made beverage and snacks. As such, it is a great place to meet other guests as well as Aavya’s dedicated team, which is always on hand to ensure each stay is as comfortable as possible. Aavya also offers personalized recommendations to uncover Rishikesh’s hidden gems known only to locals.

Aavya preserves its original five-bedroom layout, with each room carefully revitalised to maintain its original character. Guests can choose from three room types – each offering a unique and comfortable stay in the charming setting. The minimalist room is large enough to fit a small size bed, desk, and chair, while the Queen room features a high-arching doorway that leads onto a luminous private kitchen.

Arrival: A Sense of Peace

The moment I arrived in Aavya, I was immediately struck by the tranquility that hung in the air. Surrounded by mountains and the flowing river, the environment seemed to radiate calmness. I was welcomed by warm smiles by the staff and a sense of hospitality that made me feel at home, despite being far from it.As I settled into my accommodation—a cozy yet simple room—I could feel my stress begin to melt away.

The retreat center itself was an oasis of calm, with a dedicated yoga hall, meditation spaces, organic gardens, pottery studio, a podcast room and a spa with gorgeous vistas. There was a sense of simplicity here that encouraged mindfulness and living in the present moment.

Yoga and Meditation : Connecting Body and Mind

The retreat’s primary focus was on holistic wellness, and the daily schedule was packed with activities designed to nurture the body, mind, and soul. Each morning began with a 90-minute yoga session or breathwork movements by a trained instructor who makes you fall in love with wellness. These classes are designed for all levels, from beginners to advanced practitioners.

I quickly discovered how much the breathwork movements class had to offer beyond physical postures. The breathwork sessions were particularly powerful, allowing me to connect with my inner self and cultivate a sense of peace and balance. The environment of the retreat, away from the distractions of modern life, made it easy to immerse myself fully in the practice.

Meditation is a key part of the retreat. Guided meditation sessions at Aavya helped me explore mindfulness, focus, and awareness. Whether it was a short session in the morning or a longer guided practice in the retreat center, these moments of stillness became sacred to me.

Pottery Workshops

have dabbled in Pottery workshops earlier, but Aavya made me fall in love with the subtle art of creating pots made with mud. The staff at Aavya is so patient and empathetic that they make you feel connected with the subtle art of pottery making.

I began with nervousness, but gained confidence and mastered the art in my two days stay.Soulful songs and cacao workshops are also conducted on request basis. They are worth experiencing and brings about a lifelong learning experience.

Ayurvedic massages

A unique aspect of the retreat is the incorporation of Ayurveda – the ancient Indian system of natural healing. Over the course of the retreat, I experienced Ayurvedic therapy – a combination of Abhyangam and Swedish massage, where warm oil was poured over my body in a rhythmic motion.

This deeply relaxing treatment helped calm my nervous system and ease mental fatigue. The use of herbal oils, massages, and detox therapies added an extra layer of relaxation and rejuvenation to my experience.

Healthy Eating: Nourishment for the Body

One of the highlights of the retreat was the food. The meals at Aavya are vegetarian, organic, and designed to promote health and vitality. Each dish at Aavya is prepared with care, using local, seasonal ingredients that are both nutritious and delicious. From wholesome vegetable curries to exotic soups and salads, the food here is nourishing and wholesome.I learned about mindful eating, which helped me develop a deeper appreciation for the food I consumed. Eating slowly, savoring every bite, and paying attention to my body’s needs were practices I began to incorporate into my daily routine. It was a reminder that food is not just fuel but a source of nourishment for both the body and soul.

Exploring spirituality in Rishikesh

Rishikesh is a spiritual hub, and during my retreat, I had the opportunity to explore Tapovan. The iconic Lakshman Jhula bridge, the ghats of the Ganges River, and the evening Ganga Aarti ceremony are some of the highlights that one can explore while staying in Rishikesh. The evening Aarti, a devotional ritual by the river by the ghats is an unforgettable experience. The retreat also encouraged spiritual practices, whether through daily mantras, chanting, or reflection. I had the space to reflect on my journey and reconnect with my spiritual self.

The Impact: Transformation and Renewal

During my two days at Aavya, I began to notice changes within myself. I felt lighter, more centered, and in tune with my surroundings. The retreat provided me with the tools to manage stress, enhance my physical well-being, and foster inner peace.

The combination of yoga, meditation, breathwork, Ayurvedic therapies and healthy wholesome meals made me feel rejuvenated and balanced. Most importantly, I left the wellness retreat with a renewed sense of purpose and clarity. The experience had been more than just a physical detox—it had been a mental and emotional reset. It reminded me of the importance of taking care of my body, mind, and spirit, and gave me the tools to continue on this path once I returned to my regular life.

Conclusion: A Holistic Journey at Aavya is Worth Taking

The tranquil surroundings, expert guidance, and holistic approach to wellness created an atmosphere of healing and self-discovery. It was a reminder that true well-being is a balance of body, mind, and spirit—and that sometimes, all it takes is a little time away from the noise of daily life to reconnect with our true selves. If you ever get the chance to visit Rishikesh I highly recommend visiting Aavya. This is an experience that will stay with you long after you leave, bringing a sense of peace and balance to every aspect of your life.

Lan Sabai – A beautiful wellness retreat in Phuket

Enjoying a peaceful location on a quiet cobbled street of picturesque Phuket, the Lan Sabai is a beautiful wellness retreat in Phuket infused with character and a style that blends contemporary design with period features.

Getting there

The closest airport is Phuket International airport, which is only 1.5 hours away. Airport transfers are included. When I arrived, a luxury MUV was waiting for me, and provided an excellent transfer service to Lan Sabai.

The resort is superbly located in a charming, quiet neighborhood of Phuket’s oldest district. Picturesque alleys, historic places and hidden gardens make the area around the resort the city’s most entrancing district.

With 10 elegant rooms, excellent dining, an outdoor yoga hall, a wide swimming pool and an aesthetic spa, the Lan Sabai wellness resort marries the legendary hospitality of Thailand with the inimitable charm of Phuket.

At Lan Sabai, clean, nautical lines evoke an ambiance of understated refinement and a mood of calm tranquility. Overall, the pristine white architecture and the minimalist modern interior design provide a stunning contrast to the hyperactive streets of Phuket.

Here, you can meander through cobblestoned streets, marvel at romantic scenery, and stroll through galleries and shops. The property is perfect for exploring the best of Phuket since it’s within a short walking distance from all major tourist attractions, including the iconic Big Budda statue, the immensely popular Phuket Old Town  (30 min drive ) and the magnificent Wat chalong temple.

Exuding a unique character and soothing charm, the decor is a combination of historical ambience and contemporary design, sensitively complemented with the subtly opulent oriental. The hotel’s owner Ms. Lisa has carefully preserved architectural features, thus creating a wellness retreat like no other.

The simple yet creative reception desk and floral displays – and the adjoining space displays beautiful flow garments, medicinal oils, handmade products all at a very affordable price.

The dining area exhibits vibrant modern artworks and sleek furnishings. Books from reputed authors are displayed for reading in the lobby, restaurant, and the poolside or in the room.

At its base, the hotel’s main building is surrounded by an open space, shaded by pine and coconut trees. The main pool area is great for lounging, or simply soaking in the tranquil environment.

Accommodation

Each of the 10 rooms have been individually furnished and decorated to embrace the best of the destination whilst adding a touch of Asian flair. The rooms are spacious and exquisitely furnished, with high ceilings. All rooms bath in natural light peering through the large sliding doors.

The rooms feature a large bed, Asian art works, and a big almirah to place clothes, a fridge with bottles, tea sachets, coffee dispenser, and a table with basic amenities. The rooms have attached balconies facing the pool and views of the mountains.

The oversized bathroom was clad in marble, with a rain shower and chemical free bath products. I loved the idea of not having any television or intercom in the room. Since the resort has everything in the vicinity, the staff is just a shout out away, who are always there to help you.

Dining

Dinners are usually done with by 7 pm at the resort’s only restaurant that serves an eclectic mix of nourishing Asian food, based around home style cooking. The menu features fragrant dishes spruced well with ginger, garlic and coriander – all nourishing for the digestive system.

After a nutritious and delicious dinner of prawn rice with vegetables, we moved to our room. Minutes later, two masseuses with fragrant oils entered with warm smiles. The oil massage is something that we would highly recommend, as it aids in deeper relaxation with soothing oils and perfect pressure.  The masseuse are well trained and polite.

Yoga and much more

The wellness sanctum provides many holistic retreats to guests. From sound healing, yoga, tai chi, qigong, breath-work, the retreat takes guests on a transformative journey inside out.

We experienced the sound healing experience in the pool and were enthralled with the power of the healing sounds. As the Buddha bowls envisage a soothing effect, the waters gently wade up to an infinite sensation of peace and calm, helping us to drift in deep slumber.

This was the best experience I have ever come across. The breath work opens up the chakras and help in balancing them with rhythmic breathing movements, all helpful in acquiring a calming mind and soul. This session is best for people who are unable to express themselves and have difficulty in letting go of past traumas, thus blocking their chakra balance.

Poolside

Dipping in the pool is the most relaxing experience at Lan Sabai. You can enjoy a nice back float, while gazing at the fluffy clouds slightly gliding under the coconut trees. You can also enjoy floating on their water pillows without getting wet and enjoy the healing sound of nature all around.

Sightseeing

The resort helps in arranging not only airport transfers, but sightseeing options. We were able to visit several places to explore in Phuket, the best being the old town Phuket market, only 30 minutes away. The market is great for people who love to shop and indulge in coffee and cakes.

There are temples in the vicinity like Wat Chalong temple, the famous Buddhist temple and the Big Buddha temple, perched on the hill. Entry to both places is free and worth exploring. There are beaches like Nai Harn beach, a quiet compact beach with a village atmosphere. Here tourists come to relax in the peaceful vibe and enjoy swimming the moderate tides.

A healing vacation at Lan Sabai is worth experiencing as it takes you on a wellness odyssey and transforms you completely. The place is so addictive with its warm hospitality, comfortable vibe, soothing vibe, nutritious food that you would want to re-visit again.
