On a High – The Kylin Sky Bar experience

The quote “Heavens on earth” came
true when I reviewed Kylin Sky Bar, the roof top dining bar at Ambiance mall. After
the successful Sartoria in Defence Colony, the Kylin Sky Bar is all set to make
heads turn. Opened four years back, it has generated a good fan following with
numbers increasing. People from all generations usually frequent the place, but
the romantics leisurely enjoy their fine dining experience under a roof of
stars on a cool evening.
The Ambiance mall has good dining
options, but if you are looking for an impressive dining, head towards Kylin. A
few flights of stairs from the indoor restaurant take you to a dreamy world.
The weather was a pleasant one
with a brilliant breeze whispering the changing seasons. It was the perfect
moment to enjoy some fine dining experience watching the sky lit accompanied
with great food.
Kylin was the perfect answer to
the perfect dining experience that does not only involve food. The wind paved
way for us as we walked towards the roof top restaurant that looked majestic. With
subtle lights and cabana style seating, it looked priceless.
The roof top bar accentuated the
looks even further. Potted plants added to the green element. There was a live
grill station with teppanyaki at one side that flared the appetite s even
further. A live cooking station is the added touch that Kylin boasts of.The
restaurant has a cover area of 75 people on the terrace and the same indoors.
Teppanyaki delight
The seating is comfortable, so
you can easily accommodate a quiet dinner even on a hectic weekday.Kylin has a decent collection of
the finest wines and liquors. A non-alchoholic that I was, struggled to find a
decent mocktail for myself. The bar tender is very creative in making the best
mocktails and  offered me an Italian
Smooch, a concoction of lychees and green apples that was perfectly done. The green
apples thinly sliced and tangy mixed well with the sweet taste of lyches. Those
who love whiskeys must try the Teacher H/L cream that has a spicy tone.
Dimsums extraordinaire

The starters are as scintillating
as the ambiance. An aromatic box of a variety of dim sums were served before
us. The crunchy Yasai Roll has a sharp flavor of ginger blended well, while the
Thai prawn California roll goes well with prawn lovers. The crystal dumpling
chicken and coriander was my favorite as it had a thin layer of the covering
and a good mix of chicken within. Unfortunately, the chicken wings yakitori was
a dampener as it was a bit hard. On explaining by the chef, it is meant to be
hard as it is grilled without any marination.

Claypot meal

We were happy with the chicken
and leek yakitori as it was finely glazed with sauces. The slice fish butter
sauce won easily. The butter was pleasant to the palette and the sauces were
mild. A hint of lemon grass accentuated the taste even further.

The wok fried diced chicken
should be tried by people who love the food crisp and crunchy. Cooked at a high
flame, the chicken was tender and the added veggies went well with it.
The starters were quite filling,
but the main course was a live cooking session from the talented chef tempted
us to go for it. He prepared the drunken chicken before us. As we watched on,
he added vegetables on the wok and cooked at a high flame ensuring the vegetables
were crisp and crunchy.
Live Cooking

The chicken was then added and
mixed well. A dash of vinegar and other seasonings were added to it and voila,
the drunken chicken was ready before us. It was served with steamed rice and
tasted great. Although the gravy was, missing but it went well with rice. The dinner
was incomplete without sweet nothings and we ordered for friend spring rolls
that tasted heavenly. The ice cream inside the rolls did not loosen the roll
and tasted very well. The other sweet delight was the fried chocolate, a sinful
indulgence of chocolate rolled and deep-fried.

Special fried ice cream with ice cream
Kylin offers a delightful
experience in all seasons. You do not have to wait for the winters to enjoy
your food on the terrace. Well equipped with coolers, the place is a safe bet
even on a warm evening outdoor dining.
