IT @ The Grand New Delhi promises an unforgettable Italian odyssey – Witness IT to believe IT

Cascading greens soothing your eyes to the farthest, flora and fauna at its best – TheGrand New Delhi spells opulence beyond compare. Warm hospitable staff at the entrance ushers you to the wide and spacious lobby of the Hotel.

Full length
windows display a green belt that is a visual treat for the eyes. The hotel is
beautifully designed to display architectural nuances as you walk past the
lobby.

Stride
past the jewelry shop of the hotel to enter mini Italy in Delhi.
The restaurant manager Mr. Rahul Soni welcomed us with a warm smile.

The floors display Italy’s artistic finesse in
three different kinds of tiles. The high ceilings with
wax candles take you
away to a midsummer night’s dream while the spacious chairs ooze comfort and
relaxation. There is an ample space for private dining for couple indoors and a
large seating area for a big family gathering. The wine cellar stores the
finest wines that have been preserved since decades.

The three textured floors,
large antique wooden windows, square tables, comfortable chairs and soothing music
create an elegant, IT moment, with a hint of decadence.

The
Fresco dining area outdoors is a big favorite for romantic couples. A lazy brunch
on a winter afternoon is perfectly enjoyed in the Fresco area of IT. You can
also have a breathtaking experience while enjoying a cozy dinner with your
date.

However,
the highlight of IT is the open kitchen indoors, where you can watch the performance
of maestros in disguise who craft exotic dishes to please diners.
Eating here is as much a theatrical as a
culinary experience. IT boasts of in-house fresh doughs used for pizzas.

We preferred
sitting indoors since there was no way we could enjoy lunch in the scorching
heat of May. We were delighted to meet the talented Chef Surendra Singh Rawat who
has a wide experience of serving guests with his palette pleasing dishes in
several hotels.

IT
presents a modern take on regionally inspired Italian cuisine featuring a fine
collection of wine of hidden Italian gems that is served with a sophisticated
service.
Italians
love the simplicity of their staple food and IT has surely succeeded in keeping
up with the spirit of Italian food. The staff
had a pleasant surprise for us in store.

We
were served a hearty Cream of asparagus & prawn soup that had a profuse use
of herbs delighting the taste buds.

The
Tom Caprese salad comprised of a slice of milky
buffalo mozzarella cheese, tomato and basil olive oil. The salad is definitely
a good spin on the conventional rubbed salads, complete with sundried tomatoes
and mozzarella cheese that was hard to identify but succulent to eat. The salad
was gone in a few seconds and satiated us to a level impossible to express.

The
highlight of the review was the Pizza. The Grand Veg comprised of an Italian
ratatouille, Cleopatra, and a Chicken paprika and asparagus. IT is justifiably
proud of its Grand Veg pizza. Unlike other pizzas, the cheese sits pretty close
to the crust, followed by the extra layer of vegetables well submerged in the
sauce.

There
is always a fine line between careful arrangement of small bites and an
overwhelming smorgasbord. Keeping this in mind, Chef Rawat planned a platter of
the best dishes for us. The platter had Lumaconi shell pasta large, Penne in
arabiata sauce and Risotto primavera.
The
shell pasta stuffed with vegetables in tomato sauce was delightful while the Penne
pasta in spicy tomato sauce was tangy. It was the risotto that stole my heart.
The assorted vegetable and white wine risotto with parmesan, had spicy stuffing
that gives a creamy texture of a risotto. For seafood buffs, the shell shaped
pasta with fillings of well-cooked chicken and prawn has the right balance of herbs
and sauces. It occurred to me that pasta can be spicy, active and playful.

Before
the antispati, we enjoyed a Cosecha tarapaca chardoney, a mocktail that has the
perfect fresh fruity sensation that gives a nice balance with sweet sensations
and a long pleasant finish, a homemade ginger ale in Lemon Cardamom with a
tangy intonation and a cucumber cooler that had cucumber juice, mint and sugar
syrup, soda and cucumber slice.
The
mildly sweet drinks cleansed the palate, and primed our taste buds for the main
course to follow.

Our
first set of antipasti consisted of Costoletta di agnello, grilled lamb chop in
rosemary jus accompanied basil and garlic mashed potato. The lightly breaded,
skewered chicken was a refreshing change from the standard heavily battered
versions, while the grilled lamb chop took on a unique piquant taste. With its
nutty exterior, it demanded to be stripped to the bone.

They
both showcased innovative flavors and textures, but simmered down in comparison
with Pollo ala porcini “Chef special”. The Chef’s special chicken leg roulade
layered with porcini mushroom and sautéed spinach in basil jus, has a fleshy
and moist texture of the chicken that compelled me to finish the dish to the
last bite.

The
Tiramisu ended the Italian odyssey on a sweet note. The Traditional Italian
savoiardi dipped in coffee & brandy, speaks in volumes about the mascarpone
& egg cream. The Panna cotta e tartufo al brandy is a delight for kids. The
custard cream and chocolate volcano truffle with brandy caramel is enticing to
look and devilish to devour.

IT @ The Grand New Delhi is for those who love Italian food and who are well versed with the flavors.
Come here and be a part of this odyssey for an unforgettable experience!
