Dolkhar – A luxury eco friendly boutique property in Leh

Ladakh is one of the states that I visited after almost half my life span. Surprisingly, something or the other always got in the way of my trip to this breathtaking place. People often asked me – How come I never made it to one of the most diverse, unique and most breathtaking places in the world?

As a travel blogger, you get to see a lot of places and yes, some of them are doing well – simply because they deliver and there is nothing missing. But there are places that come in deeply and totally change your mindset. Leh is one such a destination!

I had the unique opportunity to stay at one of the world’s most extraordinary luxury properties – The DolKhar resort in Leh! Let us explore the reasons why Dolkhar stands apart from the rest and charges a slightly higher price than the rest.

Well for starters, it is their hospitality and the staff smartly dressed in uniform serving customers with the most loveliest smile. We stayed for a night at Dolkhar in this eco-friendly resort. Originally owned by Rigzin Lachik,  this boutique property reflects grandeur and style the moment you step in.

Our experience

A friendly staff from the hotel approached us as our cab glided into the main porch. We received  refreshing welcome drinks – a chilled glass of fresh sea buckthorn juice and a hot cup of herbal tea – both refreshing and rejuvenating. Later we were then escorted to our cottage.

Our room was located quite near to the reception. As the staff member opened the classic lock to the room, we were in awe with the tiniest detail that went into its creation. The room appears as if it must have been designed by a famous designer.

Everything was in off- white, beside the cushions and the wooden queen size bed – it always gives the room such a light and clean feeling. It’s like taking the scenic surrounding into the room when the blue shimmers through the vast open windows.

Our lovely room had two floors ; the living or the lounge area with an extra comfortable sofa, a large TV screen, jar of cookies and tea coffee sachets. I loved the Billy Hu coffee as it’s the best coffee brand in the world that has minimal caffeine content but tastes delicious.

A flight of stairs takes us to a cozy bedroom that has a queen bed with extremely comfortable mattress, small side tables made of pure wood, and a large door opening up the most pristine view of the clouds.

Next to the bedroom was the spacious and beautiful bathroom with chic toiletries, a large mirror, toilet and walk-in shower. Everything was well maintained, there were two towels per person and the hotel branded toiletries blended quite perfectly to the atmosphere.

After the housekeeping service on our second day, they brought another set of toiletries. The highlight was the small bottle of tooth powder that went perfectly well with the hotel’s eco friendly theme. The toothbrushes were also wooden with soft bristles.

Dining – Tsas By Dolkhar

Tsas By Dolkhar brings to its diners food curated by organic ingredients, devoid of any preservatives, eggs or anything unnatural. It is this element that gives this luxury boutique property a cut above the rest. The restaurant is subtle, elegant and exudes a luxury vibe. The fresco dining is perfect for soaking in sunshine during the winters.

We couldn’t try their meals but I’m sure the food at Dolkhar resort must be scrumptious. For lunch we ventured to the Leh market and tried the local cuisines of Ladakh.

Our accommodation plan included the breakfast the next day. We sampled their vegetarian omlette, made with chickpeas, crepes topped with cream and chocolate and a muesli bowl that was simply divine.

Our stay was a pleasant one at Dolkhar but we wanted a table fan as it was extremely hot, but the resort being eco-friendly denied the use of plastic in the room. The sleep was definitely uncomfortable due to the hot climate, but rest was good enough.
