The Superfood cooking session @ Westin Gurgaon

Westin is all about hospitality,
so when it came to attend their culinary Academy, I gave my confirmation to it.
While the ambiance of the hotel takes you to a new level, the staff ensures you
are looked after well.

The Culinary Academy at Westin began
its initiative to bring together their regular guests and food bloggers and
interact with the chef while cooking. The session conducted on the 17th
Jan focusing on Super foods. Health being a vital part of our lives,
requires good attention to the diet and lifestyle.
It was a delight to acknowledge
that Chef Arun came up with scrumptious healthy choices that looked delicious
and lacked cholesterol. The showcase of the super foods were amazing. The
green vegetables on the rack gleamed with freshness on the rack, while the
seasonal fruits looked very inviting.
Westin Gurgaon makes you feel at home. So
the staff keeps pampering you at different intervals. We were offered beetroot
carrot juice and a blueberry smoothie plucked right from the Super foods menu. The smoothie was refreshing but it was
the beetroot juice that opened my eyes!
We wore our aprons and hats and began
the cooking session with the chef. He started with a healthy New Tomato Olive Salad – a specialty of Super foods prepared by Chef Arun. The ‘new’ tomatoes were added to add a tangy flavor to the salad.
The chef mixed the ingredients together in a salad bowl and added olive oil with few fresh herbs to accentuate the taste. The result was a fresh and gleaming
salad that looked very inviting and healthy. The taste complimented the appearance,
as it was nowhere near bland.
We gave thumbs up and moved on to
the second dish of the Super food. The next one was a tofu burger that was a
healthier option to a normal veg burger. The Tofu although is not preferred by
people, must be given a try for its health quotient.
The ingredients are simple
and the recipe is interesting. Tofu mixes and binds well and once it is done,
it is shallow fried, which is a healthier option instead of deep-frying.
The
olive oil is perfect for shallow frying as it is less absorbed in the dish. The
taste was not as good as it looked, but those of you who are looking for a
healthy option in burger, can definitely try this at home.
The sea bass steamed fish was the
finale of the Super foods. The fish is marinated for a few hours and after
steaming for couple of minutes is served with veggies on the side.
Since the ending had to be on a
sweet note, the chef added a twist to it by making it healthy. A fondue was prepared
without the usual cakes. Instead, a platter of vegetables and fruits like kiwi
and strawberry were used to dip in the dark chocolate sauce.
The session then concludes with a
delectable buffet at the all day dining restaurant, Seasonal Tastes, famous for
its buffet spreads.
