Capture the Essence of Japan @ Cafe G Crowne Plaza Today Gurgaon

On Friday night, my family and I
were invited to dine at Crowne Plaza Today Gurgaon to review their Japanese food
festival @ Café G. I looked forward to the cuisine since Japanese cuisine is my
favourite! We were invited to review the restaurant as part of the Hotel’s
Festival promotions.

Café G looked absolutely
incredible with the beautiful decorations that replicated Thailand’s bright
colors. The beautifully lit restaurant, dimmed lighting, live music and
gorgeous Live sushi bar looked spectacular.
We were greeted by impossibly
classy Japanese décor that had a warm, homely feel. Like a traditional Thai
restaurant, the chefs were preparing dishes at the counter.

The hostess was dressed
in traditional ensemble, to add to the ambience. We sat adjacent to the live
teppenyaki counter where Chef Aryanto was preparing some delectable Thai
dishes.

We were given the menu to look
over, which started with an overwhelming red wine, fresh watermelon juice and virgin
Magharetta. Although the menu boasted of a good selection and range to suit all
tastebuds and appetites, we left ourselves in the hands of the chef who
enchanted us with his warm smile and pleasing personality.
He suggested the teppanyaki
noodles with chicken as starters. The service was fast and he surprised us with
a plate of the most scrumptious looking noodles. The staff ensured we had
enough water for the table, that we were comfortable and even took the time to
explain each dish as they arrived, including the sides and way they are cooked.
After a while, the sushi arrived.
The Sushi consisted of chicken tempura with garlic on the inside, smoked wagyu
on the outside and dressed with a delicious balsamic dressing.

The platter consisted
of 6 pieces that we loved after dunking it in the chilli sauce and topping it
with ginger and wasabi to taste. It was beautifully presented and the taste was
incredible.

We moved to the salad counter. I
picked up the Chicken Gomadare – It was tepid grilled, and was very refreshing.
If I could only eat one thing for the rest of my life…this dish would be it!
The next salad that I tried was the Nasu wakame sarada – Grilled eggplants with
wakame seaweeds and tonkstsu dressing. The unusual take on dressing accentuated
the eggplants even further leaving my taste buds rejoiced!
We moved on to the main course.
The Veg Kamameshi is unlike any Japnese dishe you ever tried. This dish is Chef
Aryanto’s attempt at a fine conjugation between the traditional Japanese style
dish and Westernized Japanese food.
The next dish we sampled was the Gyoza Moriawase. This dish
is pretty self-explanatory. Loaded with the most delicious, basic ingredients,
this mixed chicken and vegetable dumplings glazed in Teriyaki comes out chewy
and bursting with flavour, although it is admittedly, an oily affair.
The next dish that followed was the Goma Torikara. Whether
or not you like your meat, you will find yourself a fan of this dish. The diced
chicken is fried lightly, along with sautéed bellpepper, spring onion making it
crispy but without the uncomfortable taste of the fat. The chicken is tender
and juicy and the spicy sesame sauce is best pairing I have ever tasted.
The Fish Furaido with lemon mayo sauce is battered fish
fingers. Done to perfection, these crispy fish fingers are made even better
with lemon mayo sauce. Despite being a deep fried dish, the fish fingers are
juicy and flavorful without being greasy.
We sealed the meal with sweet nothings from the dessert
counter. A Tofu Cheesecake that the chef most lovingly served us was a smashing
amalgamation of tofu and cheese binded well in strawberry syrup – sinful to the
core.
You can catch the essence of Japan @ Café G where the chef
welcomes guests with a delectable fusion of Westernized Japanese. The promotion
is on till 24th April. Don’t miss it!
