California Boulevard – Enticing diners with a gastronomical fare

If you are looking for a place
with a snazzy ambiance with an American touch, then California Boulevard in
Gurgaon is the place. Opened two months back, the place is a haven for food
lovers who enjoy their meals in an ambiance they would love to come back again.

TCB is the brainchild of restaurateur Rajan Sethi who believes in satiating
diners with a complete dining experience. The iconic Harley Davidson bike
is the prima focus of California Boulevard that is parked right outside the restaurant.

California Boulevard is all about
glitter and glamour. I
f you love  Hollywood, you will cherish the walk on the
red carpet right outside the restaurant. A marbled floor with stars resembling
the
“Hollywood walk of fame” makes
it the perfect Hollywood entry.

The place is spacious enough to
entertain a huge gathering.  A large red
bus makes the perfect bar that prepares innovative cocktails and mocktails. The
walls of California Boulevard shout out aloud with posters of yesteryears
famous iconic celebrities. The feeling is completely American once you are
inside. A large Television screen on the wall with peppy musical numbers makes
you want to groove on the floor.

The staircase takes you to
another floor that is even more brightly lit up.  While the interiors are spectacular, the
outdoor fresco dining area caught my eye. You can enjoy a lazy brunch with
family and friends in the outdoor dining area.
It was a cold night, and so we preferred
to sit on the ground floor of the restaurant.  Chef Karen, the captain of the ship is a
multitalented woman who takes extra care in making succulent dishes. She served
us delicious dishes that did justice to the appearance and taste. The starter
included Dilli Ki Chaat. Mixed well
in curd and papris, this starter was
the perfect start of the review.
This was followed by crispy spinach leaves, laced with
yoghurt, tamarind & mint sauces. The crunchiness of spinach leaves did not
hamper the sweet intonation of yoghurt.
Next starters were the Bruschettas,
that were perfectly done with a high tone of garlic, a mild hint of artichoke
along with tomato & cheese.
I fell in love with the Sushi Paneer, a TCB version of cottage
cheese rolls stuffed with cheesy mushroom, coriander, ginger & mint. This
is a must try starter for people who love cottage cheese. However, the tangy
button mushroom was not as special as the sushi. The Tom Yum veg soup served along with the food was fine. Chef Karen ensured
to retain my soup craving and hence offered another soup. The Hot and Sour Soup tasted better as the spicy
and tangy flavors went well as per my expectations.

If you love chicken, you must try
the Peri Peri Crispy Chicken. The
Mexican spicy chicken dish goes well with the chipotle mayo dip. If you love chicken
in lime, try the Kaffir Lime Tikka.
The soft morsels of chicken marinated with cheddar cheese linger on to your
taste buds for a long time.

The steamed Basa Fish Topped with Cantonese garlic butter is perfect for fish
lovers. The marinated fish can be the chosen one for weight watchers. Prawn
lovers can indulge in TCB’s famous Prawn
Spring Roll
. The pastry filled with prawn stuffing  &
glass noodles, shitake mushrooms, pepper & carrot is a delight.
If you are looking for a quick snack, try the Chicken Fajitas with a blend of
coriander, lime, paprika & a hint of cumin with onion & peppers. The
fajitas were served sizzling hot with warmed soft tortilla, sour cream,
jalapenos & homemade salsa.  Try the Caribbean Jerk Chicken. The name is as
unique as the dish. The Jamaican Crispy Chicken is marinated with a zesty blend
of tangy, hot & sweet spices that is a standalone dish in itself.
The main course consisted of Thai Wok Fried Chicken, straight from
the street corners of Thailand. The diced chicken is marinated with soy,
garlic, tossed with basil & fresh red chilli that is flavorsome. A deadly
combination was the Veg. Hakka
Noodles,  Diced Chicken Ma Lha, Wok
tossed chicken with dry red chilli & schezwan pepper.

We ended the odyssey with sweet
nothings in the form of TCB Gazzak Kulfi,
the Chefs special delicacy,  Chocolate Nutella Torte – multilayered
cake with chocolate cookie crust & Nutella
Ganache
and Tab Tim Grob
Traditional Thai dessert with sweet coconut & water chestnuts. The TCB
Gazzak Kulfi is the signature dish that was flamed right in front of us and
tasted brilliant. The gazzak’s crunchiness and the kulfi’s was the perfect end
to the wonderful dinner. However, is it the Nutella Ganache that is recommended for children who love Nutella
chocolate.
