A delectable review @ Mister Chai – The perfect cuppa & a lot more!

Evening tea is mostly an elegant, timeless ritual that deserves to be preserved. It is one of those rare times in a day when you can slow down and revert back to a more innocent era, or escape into a fantasy world and indulge in much-needed quality time.

While
there have been tea rooms and tea shops that have dominated every single street
in Delhi, very rarely can you find a decent tea lounge that takes you back to
the vintage classics.

The sweet sanctuary of a
leisurely hour with close friends and families, complete with snacks, divine
cakes, extravagant pastries, precision-cut finger sandwiches and a steaming pot
of fragrant tea.

The best thing is that you will tend to switch off your mobile
phone and really take time to savor every moment.
An evening tea at Mr. Chai
recently opened in Shangri-La @ Eros New Delhi helps me to find shelter from
Delhi’s chilly weather.

Mixed pakoras, samosas and vada pavs sit somewhere on
the edges of my childhood imagination along with cutting chai; familiar to most
of us who love our evening cuppas.

We are greeted with the warmest
smile by the Executive chef Neeraj Tyagi and the in-house team at the entrance
of Mr. Chai who ushered us to a warm corner of the beautiful lounge. A Food
Connoisseur, Chef Neeraj is the man behind innovative recipes that can tantalize
anyone’s palette.

Me and my husband are escorted to
a rather large seating area with just the right amount of attention, enough to
make us feel welcome.

As I glance around
the place, I am awe-struck with a full height, gold leaf etched timber Tibetan
prayer wheel, while an intricate screen of planter boxes succeeds in drawing my
attention to the maximum.

The warmth in the room is
generated by the décor, the hospitable and pleasant service; friendly and
efficient but not intrusive. If the world stands still while we are tucked in
here we won’t notice.

The evening tea at Mr. Chai
included a bottomless pot of tea chosen from an extensive menu. ‘Peppermint’ and
‘chamomile’ describe some of the tea flavors on the menu, while black teas in
varied flavors are available too. The
Chai
Ki Tapri
however is the Great Indian Tea experience that includes favorites
like
Cutting Chai, Meri Apni Cutting,
Kadak Masala Chai.

we are delighted by the way the tea is served; the usual chaiwaala style complete with a namkeen ka dabba. The contents of the dabba were biscoot, rather traitional biscuits, curry patta peanuts and chakli. They were all devoured with chutneys.

A flat dish laden with Samosas
like Punjabi Original, Chilly Cheesy and
Butter Chicken
is replenished for as long as we stay. We taste the cream of
butter chicken as we dig in the crunchy samosa.

The crunchiness is retained keeping the essence of butter chicken alive
as fillings. Loved it! The former two were tad too different from the ordinary
samosa. While the typical Punjabi original was devoured with dips, the chilly
cheesy samosa was filled with cheese that was simply tantalizing.

The Corn Bhel was my favorite. Made with Torched corn, cucumber,
cilantro, tomatoes, onions, rice puff, tangy tamarind sauce, it tasted tangy
and sweet at the same time. The Vada Pao has
taste that resembles the ever famous cuisine of Mumbai.

Laden with chilli powder and
chutneys, this one tastes simply perfect. If you love fish, you won’t be able
to resist the Colaba Fish Fry sandwich
that wins hands down in presentation and taste.

The Paneer Khurchan Tacos are
chef’s favorites as it has the main essence of cottage cheese, guacamole,
tomato chutney, garlic yoghurt wrapped in a roti,
which makes it a complete healthy meal.

You won’t be able to resist miniature
chocolate fancies that are beautifully displayed – almost too lovely to eat.
The mini paan chocolate is my favorite; two mouthfuls of the lightest choux
oozing with paan flavor – a perfect ending to a delectable review.

We are reluctant to drag ourselves
away from the sanctuary of the tea salon but meander our way slowly through.
