Cafe G, Crowne Plaza Today, Gurgaon – Reinventing flavors

“Hidden gem” is one of those clichés you try to avoid as a
food reviewer, alongside “crave-worthy” and “flavor explosion.” Yet it aptly
describes the discrete charm of Café G, Crowne Plaza Today which reinvented
taste and took it to new level.

The classy restaurant is a part of the prominently located
hotel that is easily approachable from the NH 8. Conceived as a upscale
version, Café G is a welcome renovation to the city’s growing haute dining
scene.

The restaurant’s expansive dining room has a decent seat
cover with freshly upholstered chairs and sofas that exhibit opulence. Walls
adorned with paintings and a bar in the center add to the luxury factor. Wide
windows usher in the green effect from outdoors that has well manicured
gardens. The evenings make it look better when the outdoors are beautifully lit
up and speak volumes that are simply hard to ignore.
Executive Chef Avanish Jain’s offerings are particularly
inspired, with vegetarian and sea food staples that outclass the originals. We were suggested to begin our culinary fare with the healthy Insalata Café G Salad. A new offering in the menu, the salad has a rich flavor boosted by seasonings that contrast with the fresh, green taste of lettuce  and bell peppers.
The Three Treasure Vegetables have an extra dose of
cashewnuts that add texture and a salty finish contrasting well with the
vibrant zing of cilantro. The pizza straight out from the oven brimmed with
vegetables had enough cheese to compliment the flavors of fresh vegetables.
From the Asian-inspired options, the stir fried noodles and
fried rice are truly worth trying. The overly soy dressing dominate the dish
while elevating the natural freshness of broccoli and carrots in bitter
aftertaste. If you love sushi, try it at Café G. The fillings balance out the
covering, resulting in a scrumptious concoction that begs to be consumed at the
first sight. Chef Aryanto Ajie Saputro
who is flown all the way from Indonesia knows the art of food crafting.
His sushi is as pleasing as his warm and friendly nature. He teaches us the art
of holding the chopsticks together and devour the sushi.
The Manchow soup is masterful with its garden-fresh flavor
that paired well with drumsticks and warm breads. This light meal fills the
slot for a healthful supper that’s anything but bland.
The wide variety of the buffet at the All day dining restaurant makes you spoilt for choices. The healthful menu featuring salads adorned in tiny glasses, is difficult to avoid. The buffet comprise
of salads, soups, Indian, Western and Asian delicacies, Tepanyaki counter,
Lebanese counter, burritos, queseldas and an exquisite chat counter. The menu
here is all over the map. Asian-influenced dishes coexist with hearty Southern
dishes.
A light, refreshing take on hearty global fare such as chicken and sautéed vegetables makes the dining experience worth experimenting. The grilled chicken from the Indian counter lit up my
sensors while the authentic flavors of the Hyderbaadi Biryani  complemented nicely with the traditional
Indian dishes. It was like taking a culinary cruise from East to West. The delectable Thai  Green Curry
artfully marries sweet and savory flavors while the stir fried vegetables offer freshness and flavor.
Dessert choices abound, but the beetroot halwa stands out.
Nestled on a bed of bright red beetroot and surrounded by fresh cream and
almonds, the texture is light and delicate.
Thanks to the well-seasoned Asian-inspired dishes, zesty
dressings and naturally beautiful ingredients, Café G has fresh food that is
tasty enough to draw more than just the dieting crowd back for seconds.
Food at The Café G is exceptionally flavorful, the service
almost over-accommodating, and the vibe energetic yet refined. The old adage,
“the more things change, the more they look better,” rings true here.
