GT Road, Cannaught Place – Royal Feast from the Bygone Era

I am not very fond of Indian
cuisine but I would have to admit that the recent experience at the GT road in
CP was an experience of a lifetime. Located in the outer circle of
the bustling Connaught Place, the GT Road has garnered attention and appreciation
from food lovers. The place is always busy on both weekdays and weekends.

The
best part is that the hospitality, comfort and service are always spot on each
time you visit the place. It is owned by Rajan Sethi who loves to serve authentic
Indian cuisines to patrons. His passion for hospitality comes
from an extensive background that is reflected in careful selection of food items in the menu.
The Theme of The G.T. Road

Inspired by one of the longest
roads in Asia, The G.T. Road is a gastronomic journey.  A journey that traverses a distance of 2600
kilometres and offers a wide variety of cuisines from Kabul to Chittagong. The dishes
include food items prepared for invaders & travelers, emperors &
generals, hermits & traders across the ages.
A leisurely buffet at the G.T.
Road is a walk-through history, the taste of which lingers for long.  There are 20 starters, 25 Salads and
accompaniments, 25 main course and 20 desserts.
The Review
We visited the place on a Sunday,
but inspite of that we were very well attended. The servers ensured we got the
place within few minutes. While waiting, we were admiring the place being adorned
with paintings of the classic era. There were monuments, statues, figurines
that reflected the simplicity of the bygone era. Each item was carefully
selected and adorned ardently.
We were ushered to our seat on
the first floor of the restaurant. The theme continues to impress us with the magnificence
spread everywhere.

Subtle hues adorn the walls and simple lights enliven the
space even further. The copper cutlery is the best thing of GT Road. Unlike usual places where either plastic or glass is used, the copper cutlery reflects traditional and wellness elements.

The starters start rolling in as
we get comfortable. The pineapple with its sweet and sour taste wins hands
down, while the corn empowers our taste buds with its naughty flavors.
We also
loved the murgh malai tikkas and mutton snacks. The variety of snacks is huge and
we were filled to the brim while indulging in the succulent flavors.
We also ordered for some mocktails and
cocktails that tasted divine. Few minutes later, we moved towards the buffet. The varieties are exorbitant – each dish of the
Indian continents is displayed in the buffet that looks succulent and taste magnificent.
The chicken dishes and mutton gravy are worth trying, but also the continental
food variants should not be missed.
There were some sweet delicacies that
included barfi, jalebi, rasmalai which we went perfectly went as the closure to
a fantastic meal.
