Imly – Imlicious journey chugging straight to your heart

We all love snacking. India’s
street food is usually frequented by people who love experimenting with a variety
of snacks. Although there are chaat corners at every place in the city, we
always welcome the latest entries.

So when Imly was launched in Rajendra Place,
we were excited to try their dishes.
Imly looks enchanting dressed up
in a train. As we took the stairs and entered the coach, we were taken by surprise
to see every corner of the train decked up so beautifully. We took the seats
next to a TV screen showing a train moving across different parts of the country.
The owner, Hemant introduced himself and spoke about the inception of the restaurant.
Barely a few weeks old, Imly has garnered a great fan following from Delhi.
There are mostly families in the
train who enjoy eating together and laughing together. Although there was a
chaotic ambiance in the train, it very much resembled an actual train with kids
running here and there and families talking rather loudly.
The ambiance is definitely not
fine dining so you can leave your soft skills and indulge in some real lip
smacking chaats.
We started with shikanji, sunset fresh juices and power
packed fresh juice.
The former is simple lemonade that gives you instant energy
while the other two are packed with the goodness of original fruit pulp devoid
of sugar or preservatives. I loved the drinks.
While I was browsing through the
menu and struggling with the food to order, my daughter gave her preference of spring roll and veg crispy salt and pepper. The choices were perfect and the dishes
tasted good.
The chili idli that my husband ordered lacked freshness and was bit
hard to cut into. I ordered for Dabeli. The tangy Gujarati snack, made with spicy potato mixture, onions, chutneys and masala peanuts tasted delicious.
We also tried the dahi papri which was brought in a mini giant wheel. I loved the presentation and was floored by the taste of the snack.
The spices were overboard too. I ordered the parsi berry pulao and Rajashanti kadhi. The former one is a
brilliant take on rice with exotic vegetables seasoned with fresh herbs. It
tasted delicious. The kadhi was not at all Rajasthani and seemed more like a
simple Punjabi kadhi. Imly needs to differentiate between the Punjabi and
Rajasthani kadhi for sure.
My husband ordered for some Malabar Parantha with chettinad mushrooms.
The pairing is simply irresistible. The spices used in the mushroom chettinad have
a Southern flavor and seem the best partner with the Malabar parantha.  Go for it if you want something heavy.
We sealed the deal with a jalebi
and rabri and a rasmalai tiramisu. The tiramisu lacked the original flavor of
rum and seemed more like an Indian delicacy while the jalebi and rabri were
perfect in taste and presentation.
