Super Foods @ Prego – Wholesome Italian Flavors

A hot summer in the month of June
calls for the perfect excuse in devouring the super foods menu@ Prego, the
Italian restaurant of Westin Gurgaon New Delhi. The Westin group of hotels
ensure the guests eat well, sleep well and live well. I was invited to witness ‘The
Eat well’ program that comprises of a healthy menu.

The SuperFoods concept

Rich in antioxidants and
phytonutrients, the Superfoods help in reducing the risk of cancer & heart
related diseases such as blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes etc. They
include fruit, vegetables, grains and proteins that are known to improve
well-being and longevity.
Prego – Succulent Italian flavors
Cascading greens whisk you away
to the food haven as you walk past the glass door from the hotel lobby. Warm
hospitable staff at the entrance usher you to the wide and spacious restaurant –
Prego.
Full length windows of the
restaurant display a green belt that is a visual treat for eyes since the
landscaping is beautifully designed to display architectural nuances.
The floors display artistic finesse, while the
spacious chairs ooze repose. There is an ample space for couples and a large
seating area for a big family gathering. The wine cellar stores at Prego
display the finest wines of the country.
Prego also boasts of a Fresco
dining area outdoors which is a big favorite for romantic couples. However, the
highlight is the open kitchen indoors, where you can watch the performance of
maestros in disguise who craft exotic dishes that are a treat for the eyes.
You
cannot miss the artistic performances of the geniuses at work who prepare fresh
doughs for pizzas.
I was welcomed by the Italian Chef Alessandro Breddo who hails from Italy and has a wide
experience of serving guests with his palette pleasing dishes throughout the
world. Chef Karan accompanied us on the table while giving a preview of the Italian flavours. His knowledge and expertise is fabulous.
Prego presents a modern take on
regionally inspired Italian cuisine featuring a fine collection of hidden
Italian gems that is served with a sophisticated service. The staff @ Pego had
a pleasant surprise as a part of Super foods menu planned for me that day.
Chef Alessandro began the culinary
odyssey with a hearty salad called Insalata Di Mare. The salad is definitely a
good spin on the conventional rubbed salads, complete with sundried tomatoes
and grilled Asparagus, Kalamata Olives, and Romaine, that was succulent to eat.
The salad was gone in a few seconds and satiated me to a level impossible to
express. There is always a fine line
between careful arrangement of small bites and an overwhelming smorgasbord.
Keeping this in mind, the Chef planned a platter of bruchettas.
The Bruschette
Classica had toasted Bread Slice, Tomato
Concasse Infused With Garlic, Oregano, Buffalo Mozzarella And Basil. Before the
antispati, I devoured watermelon juice that helped to cleanse the palate, and
primed my taste buds for the main course to follow.
The highlight of the review was
the Risotto Ai Funghi Selvatici E that comprised of Parmigiano Risotto, Wild
Mushroom, Parmesan Cheese.

The risotto simply stole my heart. The assorted
vegetable and white wine risotto with parmesan, had spicy stuffing that gives a
creamy texture of a risotto. It definitely has the right balance of herbs and
sauces. It occurred to me that pasta can be spicy, active and playful.
I loved the entire odyssey and
the concept of Super Foods. The wholesome meals are a perfect take on health
options that are high in taste and low in calories.
