Tonino – Experience Italian flavors in Delhi

Since the past few days, I had
been longing to try some good Italian food. However, I was disappointed with
the latest entrants in the city. A friend suggested Tonino – An Italian fine
dining restaurant located on the MG Road.

Tonino is barely a few minutes’
walk from the Chhattarpur Metro station. It has been serving delectable cuisine
since 15 years. Patrons visit this place to enjoy a fine dining experience in a
romantic setting. It took us 40 minutes from Dwarka to reach Tonino.
As we entered the restaurant, the
restaurant manager Mr. Joshi welcomed us with a warm smile. The place was all
lit up and spelled opulence beyond compare.
Tonino is beautifully designed to
display the architectural nuances.  The
floors display artistic finesse, while the spacious chairs ooze ease and
relaxation. There is an ample space for private dining for large families and a
large seating area for a big gathering. The soothing music creates an elegant
atmosphere, with a hint of decadence.
The Fresco dining area outdoors
is a big favorite for romantic couples. Diners can also have a breathtaking
experience while enjoying a cozy dinner. However, the highlight of Tonino
is the wood fire place, where you can watch the chefs preparing fresh pizzas. Dining
at Tonino is definitely a culinary experience.
We sat indoors to enjoy the
magical combination of delectable food and the plush interiors. The Executive
Chef greeted us and introduced himself. He comes with a wide experience of
serving guests with his palette pleasing dishes at Tonino since more than a
decade. We left the menu choice with the Chef. The charming waitress served us warm breads along
with basil dips that are complimentary at the restaurant.
A few minutes later, we were
served two hearty soups that had a profuse use of herbs delighting the taste
buds. The V Minestrone toscano, a Vegetables soup with tuscan beans was my
choice while the V Zuppa speciale ; a combination of fresh broccoli with oven-roasted
tomato soup, was my daughter’s choice. We loved both the soups. The V Zuppa
fredda di melone e menthe is a special soup that is made with chilled sweet
melon, mint & extra virgin olive oil. This soup is highly recommended in
summers. The mildly sweet drinks cleansed the palate, and primed our taste buds
for the main course to follow.
The Salads @ Tonino are very
unconventional. We ordered the V Insalata greca. Prepared with olives, feta,
tomatoes, cucumber, bell peppers, red onion, green lettuce and a dash of garlic
oregano vinaigrette, this salad is a winner. It is definitely a good spin on
the conventional rubbed salads,  that is beautiful
in presentation and succulent to eat. The salad was gone in a few seconds and
satiated us to a level impossible to express.
The Piatti principali or the Main
course comprised of Filetto di sogliola griglia. It is a fillet of river sole
grilled with parsley butter sauce –grilled vegetables and potatoes. The vegetables
were delightful while the fish in butter sauce was tangy. This well cooked dish
has the right balance of herbs and sauces. It is spicy and delicious.
We loved the Il pollo al vapure e
couscous. The Steamed warm chicken and couscous with julienne of carrots n
zucchini is a dish perfect for weight watchers. The chicken has a fleshy and
moist texture while the couscous, soft and gleaming compelled me to finish the
dish to the last bite.
Next was the V Farrotto di
vegetali –  Tuscan grain cooked with
vegetables & parmesan cheese, that is a simple but very artistic dish. The
chef has given justice to the exterior and interior of the dish that is
alluring to see and succulent to taste.
The highlight of the review was
the V Tortelloni di ricotta basilica. The parmesan cheese sits pretty close to
the crust, followed by the extra layer of vegetables and ricotta basil well
submerged in the sauce.
The Desserts simply stood out
with their presentation and color. A Tirami-Su, a Mango Cheese Cake and a Fondutta
di Ciocccolato con Gelato were served in decent portions to us.
The Tirami-Su, their
speciality speaks in volumes about the mascarpone & egg cream, while the Mango
Cheese Cake is a delight for kids. The Fondutta di Ciocccolato con Gelato is
enticing to look and devilish to devour. Tonino @ MG Road is for those who
love Italian food and who are well versed with the flavors. You can visit this
place during lunch or dinner and take back beautiful memories to cherish.
